Spotlight on Mrs. Fitts
Linda Fitts has been Walden's K-8 computer teacher for ten years. Before beginning her second career as a classroom teacher, Mrs. Fitts's background was in Parks and Recreation. She was the Aquatic Director, a resident camp director, and a newspaper sports writer and photographer for the YWCA. After the YWCA, Mrs. Fitts worked for the Girl Scouts in Tennessee and Florida, before assuming the role of Program Services Director for USA Girl Scouts Overseas in Heidelberg, Germany; in that position, Mrs. Fitts supervised staff and volunteers in six European countries. Upon returning to Louisville, Mrs. Fitts earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching at Bellarmine University. After short stints with JCPS and as a Walden substitute teacher, Mrs. Fitts joined the Walden faculty. Mrs. Fitts notes that, "Walden School is the perfect environment for me as a teacher. The nurturing environment and professional staff provides both freedom and structure when working with students. I really enjoy working with students in the computer lab. Providing a challenging but fun curriculum has been my goal for all classes. The curriculum is designed to give students an experience conducting investigations with new information technologies. I try and develop engaged learning for all class projects." Mrs. Fitts enjoys numerous hobbies, including reading, knitting, photography, and enjoying time with family and friends. "I am an avid outdoors person, camping, hiking, swimming, sailing, and scuba diving are some of my passions. Gardening gives me a sense of peace and I try and enjoy the outdoors as much as possible. Even though my husband and I have no children, we have 15 nieces and nephews between us! That, along with my 'Walden kids' fills my life with the joys of cultivating and enjoying young people."
Note from Stacy Nickle: Holiday World gives a great discount rate, $20.00 for certain dates and number of people. For the last 3 years I have set up a date and we have gone with Walden friends. Just an FYI: June 9, 2010 - Meet at front gate at opening time. Email Stacy Nickle if you want to join in and receive email updates. "We do not all 'hang' together, so the older students can do their own thing totally. Thank you, Stacy stacynickle@yahoo.com
